Yes No If you have never played the harp before then START HARP LEVEL 1 will be perfect for you, it is a course that works even if you have never played any musical instrument before and presumes no prior knowledge! Have you had 10 or more hours of one-to-one harp lessons? Yes No START HARP LEVEL 1 will work well for you! We cover all the basic foundations of technique, note finding, reading, improvising and playing by ear. If you have never had any one-to-one lessons or just had a few you will find these lessons very carefully help you work on the foundations whilst immediately playing real tunes and making beautiful music! Do you already read music (treble and bass clef)? Yes, I read treble and bass clef music confidently No or only a little bit START HARP LEVEL 1 teaches music reading from the very beginning so if you have never learnt to read and you are still in your first year or two of playing LEVEL 1 should suite you well. If you already improvise and play by ear well then you might consider taking LEVEL 1 for the theory and simultaneously taking LEVEL 2 for the repertoire building aspects (many students have done this over the years and found it successful). This course has a focus on learning to play in different keys (up to 3 ♭’s and 3 ♯’s) and how to modulate, change key and use levers/pedals within a piece. We also look at techniques such as harmonics, different ways of damping, 4th finger slides, thumb slides, mid piece lever/pedal changes and trills. We expand our theory: knowledge with reading and writing pedal chart, the circle of 5ths, modulating to join pieces together, learning new key signatures, learning about relative major/minors. Along with additional information on practice techniques, avoiding aches and pains, extending repertoire quickly, preparing to perform and learning to teach yourself.
