Technique Booster Course – Explore, Revive, Reflect

Online short Course

This course is aimed at harpists seeking ways to work on smoother, more agile, controlled, beautiful and happy playing. This course will provide a ‘library of ideas’ you can return to again and again and also a ‘Technique Booster Plan’ to enable to you to check and reflect on your playing whenever you feel a little technique refresher might be required.

We work in three sections:

Explore:

During the first section of the course ‘Explore’, we look at foundation technique concepts and common pitfalls, covering aspects of our playing including:

  • Our position at the harp, including relaxation
  • Basics refresher: thumbs up, fingers down, elbow up etc
  • Place and play
  • Placing in one direction
  • Hover, Land, Squeeze, Play, Relax
  • The basic damp
  • The turn
  • The arpeggio
  • The scale
  • Default fingering for intervals and chords
  • Finger movement when playing block chords/2 note intervals
  • Rolled/spread chords
  • The pivot for larger intervals

Revive:

In the second ‘Revive‘, we use the Technique Booster Workout Sheet to work through the foundation techniques covered during ‘Explore’. You will be guided through the exercises so you can take your time to experiment with the ideas and ‘Revive’ your own playing skills, particularly of course in the areas where you can tell that adjustments will enable you to work on smoother, more agile, controlled, beautiful and happy playing!

We finish this section with a Technique Booster Workout Play Along, I take you through the Technique Booster Workout Sheet with reminders and tips all in one go, in a video that you will be able to come back to again and again and use to check in on and revive your own foundation skills as required.

Reflect

This third section we reflect on why all the ideas covered in this short course are important when we are playing. This section includes looking at how you can implement the ideas into your practice with a Technique Booster Plan and we also try a little piece called ‘Clarity Oasis’, a piece which gives us the opportunity to experience moments where foundation techniques are unavoidably and undeniably useful, in the hope to truly encourage us all to keep working at these concepts and move forwards with our goal for smoother, more agile, controlled, beautiful and happy playing!

This course is aimed at any harpist wishing to take a few hours out to check in on their technique to explore, revive and reflect on their skills.

The videos, along with some explanatory text and sheet music downloads for you to print out and keep will be available for 12 months after delivery for you to access at anytime.
