DYNAMIC HARPS SUMMER 2023

www.FairplayHarpSchool.co.uk

I am delighted that you are interested joining/re-joining the harp ensemble this term. I am really looking forward to getting started and I hope you are too!

As it is the summer and the evenings will be lighter , I will only be running the evening sessions this term. I very much hope last terms daytime group can join us and my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. If there is the demand I may be able to bring back the daytime sessions in the Autumn term.

Please do encourage anyone you know to join us, I absolutely LOVE Dynamic harps SO MUCH but I can only run the sessions if we have enough harpists commit, use it or lose it as they say!

Monday Evening Sessions

10 Week Monday Evening Rehearsals and the Family Harp Weekend at the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Our 10 week term will take place on Monday nights in Radyr. We will meet on 2 of the 3 May bank holiday dates as otherwise we will not have enough time to prepare for the June concerts!

  • Our 10 workshop sessions start on the 24th April 2023 (with a one week break for half term).
  • We have two mid-term concerts at the National Botanic Garden Wales during the family harp weekend 10th-11th June 2023.
  • The 4 sessions taking place after the harp weekend concerts will be spent working on the recording project pieces ready for our CD creation and an end of term celebration and ‘play to each other’ session.

COST: The cost for attending the ensemble this term is £185. This of course includes your access to the online Dynamic Harps Virtual Ensemble materials too (which can be accessed for free).

10 Week Course Location: The sessions will take place at the Old Church Rooms, Radyr. We have used this space before, it has its own car park and good access for bringing your harp in. The address for the Old Church Rooms is: Park Road, Radyr, CF15 8DF – it is on the same road as the Radyr Primary School and the Library in Radyr. Please be aware that there are other churches in Radyr, if you can’t find us for the first session, please call me on 07960 718663.

COVID-19 Precautions and Guidelines

We will follow guidance from the Welsh Government at all times. Masks and pre-session testing will not be required during the 10 week workshops this term. If this makes attending prohibitive for anyone wishing to join please email me on info@harpwales.com so I can do my very best to accommodate your needs.

The Dynamic Harps Virtual Ensemble

Whether you sign up or not, you are also invited to attend our online Dynamic Harps Virtual Ensemble sessions too!  We will be rehearsing online the tunes we are going to record for the CD in October, we will also look at these pieces during our face to face sessions. The play along videos with parts should be useful for your practice even if you do not attend these sessions live. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month 8pm-9.30pm.

Future Dynamic Harps dates for your diary

The Harp Project Recording Retreat, we will record our album with friends near and far on the weekend of the 13th-16thOctober 2023 at Court Coleman Manor.

Please remember that each term you are expected to commit to the concerts and to attend a minimum 8 of 10 sessions, this is so we can learn our parts, learn to perform within the ensemble and then be there on the concert day to play our parts so that the balance within the pieces works well.  Life can very easily creep up on us with unexpected happenings. Please let me know if you already know you are unable to attend any of the concerts, I know the trip to North Wales will not be possible for everyone, the sooner I know the better I can score parts to work with the group who will attend.

I totally understand last minute changes, but if you already know you are unable to attend at least 8 rehearsals and/or the concerts this term please let me know as you may need to have a break and re-join us next term. We have to think of the whole group and all the hard work everyone puts in, to make sure we respect one another and our wonderful music making.

Times: Dynamic Harps on Monday evenings will run from 6.45pm – 8.45pm for the 10 sessions. Please arrive to set up and tune by 6.30pm and be ready to play from 6.45pm. If you are not tuned and ready by 6.45pm please can you set up outside the room and join us once you are ready to make sure we can all get the most from our sessions.

What to bring to sessions: Harp, music Stand, harp stool (or there are normal chairs to use at venue), tuning equipment, spare strings if you have them, ensemble music file (which you will be given at the first session), pencil, rubber. Please where possible clearly mark your equipment with your name.

What next? From now on, all payments will be taken online, please visit this page to pay for the 10 sessions o secure your place. I would also love an enrolment form filled in for the first official session of term, I can collect them when we meet and will have spare copies with me for you to fill in if you are not able to print one out in advance.

The fee for the 10 week evening course of Dynamic Harps is £185 for the term.
